A few quick knits

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015

It’s been a busy few days at work, and I was getting a bit jumpy because of having too much on my plate.  Last night I found a great excuse to knit a bit.  A friend’s in hospital, and I wanted to make a little something to show that I care.

Here’s a starfish knit from this free pattern.

Here’s why starfish are so special to me…. It’s a reminder that small actions can make a big difference, one person at a time.

Here are two hearts that are joined together with magnets.  The free pattern is from mochimochiland.  The magnets were my added touch.

These are all small tokens that can be kept in the palm of your hand, or in your pocket, on those days where you need a little something.

Mr. Mo Lar

A friend of mine has been struggling with a dental issue, and I was looking for some way to lift his spirits.  My usual go-to is baking, but for someone who can’t chew well right now, I searched a little further.

I found an adorable pattern for a tooth fairy pillow in the shape of a tooth.  The pattern was written to be knit flat, and also made a much larger tooth.  I cast on and knit a few rows then ripped it out because I was looking for something smaller.

My modifications were significant.  I knit two identical roots in the round, then joined them together to knit the body of the tooth.  I followed the basic premise for increases and decreases, stuffed it with some clean sheep’s wool (because I have more than 3 bags full), and embroidered a face.

There’s a wee pocket on the back of the tooth, so it can be used as a tooth fairy pillow when my friend’s son loses his baby teeth.

Easter Toes

Monday, April 6th, 2015

We had a great Easter brunch with family.  I thought that bunny slippers would be a great addition to the wardrobe of the little ones.

They are a very quick knit out of fluffy yarn.  They’re knit flat and sewn up.  Add ears and a face and they’re done!  Here’s the pattern I used.

It’s fun sharing holidays with these two.
