these mittens are just amazing! I'm still a one color knitter, but want to try a simple pattern soon. I break wooden and bamboo needles too.

WOW!!! They are so beautiful. I think I might need to go find this pattern on Ravelry. I don't knit well on dpns though, so I'm appropriately intimidated!

The cuffs are knit by casting on, knitting 10 rows (or how ever many you want) for the inside of the cuff, purling a row (that's where the inside becomes the outside), then knitting 10 more rows (equal number to the inside of the cuff) in pattern for the outside of the cuff. The next row is tedious....picking up one stitch from the cast on row and knitting it together with the live stitch from the same "column" 20 rows later. Continue to pick up and knit 2 together all the way around the row. The bumps of the purl row should now be the start of the cuff. It leaves the cuff looking very professional, twice as thick as the mitten, and it avoids inches of ribbing! I've used this technique on hats, and the Turkish baby socks.

Wow! They look awesome! What a neat pattern- I to like the symmetrical-ness going on.

One question- how do you get the inside of the cuffs to look like that??
